Art at Coleby

Our intent

At Coleby Primary School, our intent is that children build an awareness of how art and design reflects and shapes our history, as well as contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. We want our children to appreciate art as a subject that is accessible to all and fully inclusive, and to be engaged, inspired and challenged during art activities. We aim that our children learn the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. Children should be given the opportunities to become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. We want children to learn about great artists, craft makers and designers and their art forms, and as children progress, we want them to be able to think more critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. We want our children to enjoy art activities and to develop lifelong enjoyment.
